"The defendant was so consumed with everything John Doe #1 did, he texted John Doe #1 as if he was John Doe #1"
Day 2 of former correctional officer Cory Fisher's jury trial started with his former wife Angela Fisher's testimony.
Before court started, Judge Timothy Canning told jurors that March 18 would not be "a dark day" as previously indicated and daughter in law Jackie Fisher was asked to leave the courtroom. She initially came in as a support person for Angela Fisher but may be called as a witness.
Except for identifying Cory Fisher by name once, Angela Fisher referred to him as the defendant during her testimony. Her body was positioned in a way where she did not look at him while she testified.
On direct testimony, Angela Fisher testified about changes in her marriage, changes in Cory Fisher, the relationship between John Doe #1 and John Doe #2 and intimate questions about her sex life with Cory Fisher including use of lubricant and the frequency of their sex lives.
"In the beginning it was a very loving relationship," said Angela Fisher. " He was a provider and he wanted to be a dad to my children and I loved him. " Before he worked at the Humboldt County jail, Cory Fisher worked for the DISH network.
"We worked different shifts, in my eyes the relationship was still the same but we did not spend any time with each other."
Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads asked about intimacy between Angela and Cory Fisher. "At first, it was great. We were sexually active all the time. When we moved to Williams street, after John Doe #3 was born, maybe once every six months. For the most part, it remained the same. At the end of the marriage, it had been three years since we had been intimate." She clarified intimate meant having sex.
"Was lubricant ever used during sex?" Ms. Eads asked.
"Yes," said Angela Fisher.
Cory Fisher would watch movies or play video games and fall asleep in bed with John Doe #1 and he also did that with John Doe #2. This was when both boys were in high school.
She said it was kept in the master bedroom in the top drawer. This was one of the few details from John Doe #1's testimony that was corroborated by Angela Fisher's testimony. Details of when they moved, the layout of the house and there being a hot tub were other details corroborated.
Angela Fisher said that in the beginning, John Doe #1 and Cory Fisher were very close and that Cory Fisher "pushed John Doe #2 aside for John Doe #1." She said John Doe #2 was more of "a mama's boy."
She explained that she did not notice the controlling behaving by Cory Fisher over John Doe #1 until he was in "junior high or high school. I always figured he was in trouble. The defendant would say they are being assholes or they are fighting."
"The defendant was so consumed with everything John Doe #1 did. The defendant texted John Doe #1's girlfriend as if he was John Doe #1."
Angela Fisher described incidents of physical abuse that she witnessed. One was John Doe #1 yelled "Mom" and she came into his room to find Cory Fisher punching John Doe #1 in the face and choking him and that she attempted to pull him off John Doe #1.She said Cory Fisher backed off but the yelling continued.
She also tried to intervene in the fight between John Doe #2 and Cory Fisher on July 25, 2017. This is the incident mentioned in the preliminary hearing where Cory Fisher, Angela Fisher and John Doe #2 were at a HCSO fundraiser in Fortuna, then they went to a casino and a verbal argument occurred on the freeway because John Doe #2 wanted to go home and Cory Fisher wanted John Doe #2 to drive him to the bars. Later at home, there was a fight between John Doe #2 and Cory Fisher, the police were called but both declined to press charges.
Angela Fisher said that she did not report the sexual abuse allegations to law enforcement initially because "I did not want to put my sons through the humiliation of a trial."
She went to law enforcement because "I didn't want him to do this to other little children."

I knew Cory Fisher as an adolescent. He was always running off the rails, getting in trouble, getting his nose in other peoples' business, stealing, lying, cheating, and filled with false pride.
