"I hugged Brandon and ran. I wanted to tell my dad before I got arrested. Because I had a juvenile warrant."

Jane Doe started her testimony by saying that she forgot to mention yesterday that she saw Lorna Leen at some point during the day. She could not recall when "but we asked her where Chris was."

After using drugs, Jane Doe, Brandon Brocious and Christopher Sterling ended up in the middle of the cemetery. "Chris saw my friend Lily and went to look for her." Brocious and Jane Doe saw Leen sitting on a bench and went over to her.

The Lily part was irrelevant because her name never came up again and she was not present when the alleged argument and stabbing occurred.

Sterling-Craft had dropped off his backpack before he went to look for Lily. While he was gone, Brocious picked up Sterling-Craft's backpack. "He had one strap over his shoulder."

"I remember Chris telling Brandon to give him his backpack. Brandon said, not until you give  (Jane Doe mentioned her name) her phone."

Jane Doe said she and Sterling,-Craft had a conversation about Leen and Sterling-Craft's belongings.

"Me and Chris were talking. Do you really want your mom to be cold at night because you won't give me my phone? We argued about it."

"Chris told Lorna to grab one of us."

At this point, Judge Elvine-Kreis admonished Jane Doe and there was a break and she ran out of the courtroom.

When we returned, the questioning backtracked to the argument between Jane Doe and Sterling-Craft.

"I would give him his stuff back if he would give me my phone back."Jane Doe said that she and Sterling-Craft were standing a "foot apart."

Leen was standing "on the left side of Chris." Brocious behind Jane Doe. Brocious still had Sterling-Craft's backpack.

"Chris said to Lorna, 'Hold one of them back.' She dropped her bag and grabbed my arms. " Jane Doe said she could not "break free" from Leen.

"Brandon started running. Chris was running up on Brandon. " Jane Doe did not see anything in Brandon's hand. "Chris had a knife. It had a wooden handle like a kitchen knife." She held her hands apart estimating the length to be a foot. Jane Doe described the blade as "silver with some rust on it."

Jane Doe said that she had seen Sterling-Craft with the knife earlier that day. "I recall him (Brandon) saying he (Chris) could have his backpack."

"Chris struck Brandon." Brocius tried to run but he fell to the ground."Chris stood over him and swung at Brandon with the knife." Jane Doe said Sterling-Craft stabbed Brocious in the chest.

Jane Doe did not recall how many times Sterling-Craft stabbed Brandon. "I think the first time, Chris may have swung the knife on the side."

"I was pulling on my arms, I said (to Leen), 'You are really going to let Chris do this; you know I can stop him."

"After Brandon got stabbed, Chris took his backpack."

"Lorna let me go after Chris got his back pack." Leen said to Sterling-Craft, "Let's go. What are you doing?" Leen and Sterling Craft ran towards Broadway, said Jane Doe. Leen said to Jane Doe,"Call 911."

Jane Doe said she had two phones. One was broken, these phones were in addition to the phone missing.  One phone belonged to Brocious. Jane Doe called 911.

"I was on my knees and I took my hoodie and pressed on his chest. I kissed him and told him it was going to be okay."

Jane Doe saw a stab wound on Brocious' chest. She said "it was dark by this time."

She waited until she saw the police arrive. "I hugged Brandon and ran. I wanted to tell my dad before I got arrested. Because I had a juvenile warrant."

She was able to get to her house  which is near the cemetery, and told her dad what happened. Her dad went to the cemetery to check on Brocious.

Brocious's mother sobbed as she heard testimony about her son being stabbed. Jane Doe was crying while testifying and she sobbed when she had to identify photos of Brocious at the cemetery.

During cross examination, Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo got Jane Doe to admit that she smoked meth four times on August 9, 2018 and marijuana once at Fort Humboldt.
Out of the four times she smoked meth, three times it was with Sterling-Craft. Jane Doe also admitted she smoked meth everyday.

"It was your intention of finding Chris and beating him up " said Mr. Russo.

Jane Doe said no, she was just upset about her phone.

"Ms. Leen is someone who has helped you in the past and she has protected you," said Mr. Russo.

"Yes," said Jane Doe.

"Isn't it true that my client said she would get your phone back from Shane?" Mr. Russo asked Jane Doe. "Shane" is Sterling-Craft's cousin.

"Yes,," she responded.

During cross examination, Jane Doe admitted Brocious put Sterling-Craft's backpack into his backpack. She omitted this detail during direct examination. First she denied, then when confronted with what she told Detective Ron Harpham, she said, "You are right."

Jane Doe while arguing with Sterling-Craft said to him, " You are a piece of shit."

During cross examination, Jane Doe  admitted Brocious yelling to Sterling-Craft ,"We can fight now. If you want to pull a knife."

Jane Doe acknowledged that until this was said there was no threatening behavior from Leen towards her.

When asked by Mr. Russo about Brocious' red bandana and this being associated with being a member of the Norteno gang; Jane Doe said, "that doesn't mean he is violent."

Jane Doe responded  "yes " when Mr. Russo asked her if she was angry at Sterling-Craft for Brocious' death. She admitted making statements that she wanted to kill Sterling-Craft. She also said yes to statements about disrespecting their graves.

Jane Doe is currently  in the custody of probation.

Jane Doe said she could not recall whenever it was convenient. She admitted to some things when confronted by statements she made to EPD Detective Ron Harpham and when asked certain things during cross examination.

Jane Doe would go back and forth in her testimony, adding details to something she testified to earlier making a timeline very confusing.

Since we were not privy to how the first name is spelled, I don't know if Christopher Sterling-Craft's brother is Jordan Sterling or Jorden Sterling (the latter is on Humboldt County jail).
