APD Chief Ehle to meet DA Maggie Fleming tomorrow morning regarding the David Josiah Lawson case

I just spoke with Arcata Interim Police Chief Richard Ehle. He met with Charmaine Lawson on Monday.

Chief Ehle's last day with APD is Friday. After that, he is available via contract to assist the new police chief as well as on the Lawson case.

Chief Ehle told me, the plan is to meet with DA Maggie Fleming tomorrow morning and submit the David Josiah Lawson case investigation to her.

APD has worked for 4 and a half months on this investigation. This is in addition to the original investigation.

Chief Ehle said he cannot speak for DA Fleming but he would expect a timeline of at least two to four weeks for the DA to review the case submitted by APD.

Today, there will be no additional update on the Lawson case at the Arcata City Council meeting tonight than what has already been stated so far. Chief Ehle understands there is a lot of interest in this case and he said, "people need to give time for the job to be done properly and for justice to be done."

On November 5, I sent the following questions to DA Maggie Fleming.

1. Have you received any information from APD yet?

2. Is the only thing you are waiting on this week is supplemental reports?

3. After you have received the information, do you have a minimum timeline before you would issue arrest warrants, if that is the decision?

4. Will the press be informed before you issue an arrest warrant if there is one or more than one suspect in the case?

5. Have any warrants already been issued in the case?

Kyle Zoellner is no longer working for the same employer he was at the time of the 2017 preliminary.
