"I will say that regardless of the outcome, it is critical that we take the preventive measures we did to ensure the safety of both the public and employees. "

Humboldt County Senior Administrative Analyst Sean Quincey provided this response about test results on the unknown white substance found on the doors of 421 I street.

"The day of the event, Dr. Baird determined that no further testing was warranted by Public Health as our initial testing ruled out biological and chemical threats."

"It is not common (except in criminal cases) to identify unknown substances because it requires a special laboratory with a mass spectrometer to do the identification."

"Our local laboratory, which should be back up and running in December, while powerful, does not have those capabilities. Securing the resources required to conduct that testing was not warranted in this case.  That said, the company we contracted with to do the Hazmat Cleanup did send the material to a lab to identify it so we can figure out which disposal site to send it to. We should have those results soon."

"I will say that regardless of the outcome, it is critical that we take the preventive measures we did to ensure the safety of both the public and employees. "
