Armed robbery and carjack suspect flees from Blue Lake Casino

Update:

The suspect of an armed robbery and carjacking at a Blue Lake gas station was taken into custody in Del Norte County on Nov. 17, 2018.

Jeffrey Clair Gatlin, 49, was arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Crescent City. He is currently being held in the Del Norte County Correctional Facility on charges of vehicle theft, armed robbery, carjacking, resisting arrest and failure to obey a peace officer. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for additional charges. Gatlin will be transported to Humboldt County for prosecution at a later time.

On Saturday, November 16, 2018 at about 07:30 a.m. Humboldt County Sheriff Deputies responded to the gas station at the Blue Lake Casino for a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that a white male adult entered the gas station armed with a firearm and demanded the money in the cash register. The male subject left the gas station with undisclosed amount of money and attempted to carjack a customer outside the gas station.

The male subject was contacted in that vehicle by Blue Lake Casino Security and brandished the firearm in their direction. He subsequently fled the area on foot and later carjacked a vehicle from the same area.

Evidence was collected at the scene and the incident is still under investigation. The identity of the suspect is being confirmed at this time.
