Yes, another armed robbery at a Mckinleyville gas station for cash and cigs

On Nov. 20, 2018, at about 12:30 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a gas station on the 2600 block of Central Ave. in McKinleyville for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

According to the store clerk, two masked suspects entered the gas station just before 12:30 a.m. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cash register. The second suspect began taking multiple cartons of cigarettes from behind the counter. The suspects then fled the store westbound on Reasor Road with approximately $250 in cash and multiple cartons of cigarettes valued at more than $500.

No one was injured during this incident.

The first suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt, a blue face mask, light blue jeans with a faded white front, a black baseball cap with a red logo and red shoes.

The second suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with a redwood tree logo, a brown cowboy hat, blue jeans and black shoes.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of these subjects, or related case information, is encouraged to contact Deputy Scott Aponte at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

  1. Close the store from 9pm to 7am. The owner is greedy and knows full well his station is a popular place to rob.AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN Does an attendant working for $8.00/hr have to die first before logic comes into play???

    1. Well said camelg1. The owner is also too cheap to hire private security at night.

  2. The root cause is no fear of harsh punishment and the odds of no police in the area. We all pay taxes, the business owner pays taxes. I work seven days a week, am I greedy? No I'm struggling to keep what I have and provide for my family and friends. Providing employment and a place for citizens to purchase food and gas 24 hours a day is not being greedy. Armed robbery ia a crime and when caught these two little s*** heads need to be sent to jail for 40 years and they will be caught because they're idiots. As long as human waste such as these are aloud to plead out and then released early back on us citizens to recommit their crimes we're screwed. The blame lays on the idiots in Sacramento and the idiots who voted to put them there. Should we close everything from Dusk to Dawn and cower in our homes until the sun comes up? No! Punish severely instead of go ahead and do the crime cuz you probably won't get no freaking time. Blaming the business owner, that's just Wrong.

    1. Rusty, while I agree with you about no consequences for criminals, you are the minority in this opinion. Even those who also live in Mckinleyville agree that the owner is greedy. Not everyone who owns a business in Humboldt is hardworking or cares about the community. I won't go into my observations about irresponsible Humboldt business owners again and the consequences to the public.

This particular store has been robbed several times. Like you, I and many others also pay taxes. HCSO has to respond to this fool's business to take a report and follow up. There are other more serious crimes in Mckinleyville. The owner can hire a private security guard or take other measures. He is a cheap,
greedy gas station owner who has no problem selling overpriced soda, cigarettes and other junk but thinks the safety of his customers and employees means nothing.

    1. Rusty, two emotional comments in a row which is very unlike you. Do you know the business owner? How you feel was pretty clear in the first comment.

Not sure if your comment about boycotting the business is serious but I agree on that one. The business is located on Central so it isn't as if there will be no business. Will you be singing the same tune if someone gets killed or harmed and then the business owner gets sued? Yes, let's have a Happy Thanksgiving and especially remember the first responders working who will not be spending it with their families. Unfortunately crime in Humboldt is rampant and lack of investment in the community to create opportunities for people for decades makes it impossible for many who want to leave Humboldt and permanently shop elsewhere.

  4. Don't know the owner. There are 3 other 24/7 gas stations plus Safeway. None have security other than the people running the register. Just curious, so they're not being robbed at gunpoint point because they charge less? Or is it that he is located on Reasor road just down the street from low income housing and the element that appears to hang out there. Many business are robbed through no fault of their own. Business owners don't cause crime, criminals do. I'm not calling for a boycott just if customers think they're getting screwed there are three alternate chocies no emotion just common sense suggestions.

    1. The point you keep missing Rusty is that you keep defending business owners and want to shift the blame on everyone else. That is your opinion. The point is that this gas station has been robbed several times. That is a fact. The point is that this business owner has done nothing to increase safety for his customers or employees. Many people have commented on
his lack of action here and on other places online. You keep commenting on this post. You won't let it go. There is something more behind your reaction. I am done printing the same tired old defense of this business owner or business owners in general which provide nothing to show that this gas station owner has done anything to address the situation.

Business owners do share responsibility in why this County has gone downhill. And I do not include you in that group. You are a giving and caring man and a responsible business owner and one of the few who has to pay the price for the decisions made by irresponsible politicians and other business owners.

I have spoken up several times on this blog about greed and corruption and you have read those posts. You have expressed appreciation that I do speak up in the past.

At 8:15 a.m. you wished a Happy Thanksgiving to all. Go enjoy the holiday weekend.
