Counterfeit bill at a Eureka store passes the pen detector test

Scrapper's Edge in downtown Eureka is warning other businesses in the Old Town and downtown area about counterfeit bills.

"We just received a bad $50 bill. It passed the counterfeit pen detector test because it appears to be a $10 that was bleached and printed over."

The store took it to the bank and their  suspicions were confirmed.

$100 counterfeit bills in Southern Humboldt and $5 counterfeit bills in Eureka and McKinleyville have also been an issue.

Eureka Police Department's Suzanne Owsley told me that EPD has reports of counterfeit $5 bills "but no suspects as far as I know. " No report filed yet with EPD by Scrapper's Edge.
