Deceased adult male found near Hwy 96, HCSO searching for other bodies


On August 24, 2020, at about 2:48 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the U.S. Forest Service and the California Highway Patrol to assist with a possible traffic accident occurring over an embankment, with a vehicle in the Klamath River, on Highway 96 near Milepost Marker 34.

No suspect in stabbing incident from this weekend



On August 25, 2020, at about 12:46 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol on Bell Springs Road near Alderpoint Road in Southern Humboldt located an adult male stabbing victim who was being transported privately to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Defense files 995 motion in Pamela Millsap case; motion to continue trial granted


Further trial confirmation was scheduled for murder suspect Pamela Millsap on this morning. Jury trial  scheduled for August 31 was vacated after defense motion to continue was granted by Judge Christopher Wilson.

14 new COVID 19 cases reported since Friday


Humboldt County’s confirmed COVID-19 case count now stands at 359. Fourteen new cases have been reported since Friday.

Motion regarding source of Kevin Haberman's bail is scheduled in September


Arraignment on information took place for Kevin Haberman on August 24. He is charged with 12 counts.

One additional HSU student resident has tested positive for COVID-19.

Fifteen minutes ago, I was walking back from Target and see an EPD vehicle. I took a brief video that I will post on Facebook so you can hear the woman yelling at the EPD officer. 

Another arrest for alleged attack against transgender women, this time in Los Angeles




Two men were arrested in an alleged hate crime attack and robbery of three transgender women in Los Angeles.

Last one was in Portland. I don't see any outrage from the woke media, BLM or the trans lives matter activists.

Judge Canning orders sanctions against local attorney Andrew Stunich to provide discovery and pay plaintiff


Steve Wright filed a malpractice suit against local attorney Andrew Stunich in 2019. I reported on that as well as a response from Mr. Stunich. A state bar complaint was also filed  by Wright against Mr. Stunich in June 2019. There have been four investigators since then and the complaint "remains under investigation."

Three cases of COVID 19 reported today

Three cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing to 345 the total number of Humboldt County residents who have tested positive for the virus.

EPD releases some information about HCSO vehicle and pedestrian collision this morning




On August 21, 2020, at about 6:07 a.m., officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of 5th and “N” Streets in Eureka. It was reported that the collision involved a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) patrol unit and a pedestrian.

"At this time, I do not have the technical capabities to do what you are asking"


Trial assignment for alleged molestor Mark Dare on August 14 and  jury trial for August 17 were continued to August 21 and continued again to August 28. Dare's case is time waived.

Cesar Valenzuela resolves his case with a plea for a 13 year prison sentence


At trial assignment today for Cesar Valenzuela, he entered a guilty plea to PC 215 (a) carjacking and the special allegation PC 12022.5, use a firearm during the commission of the crime. The plea agreement was for 9 years for the carjacking charge and 4 years for the special allegation. Valenzuela waived his right to appeal.

The 20-29 age demographic represents the largest percentage of new COVID-19 cases locally, reflecting a national trend, at 22 percent or one in five infections, according to the most recent county data.

Identity and sex of human remains found in the area of Hwy 96 unknown at this time



Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies have located human remains in Northeast Humboldt.

Nine additional COVID 19 cases reported today


Since diagnosing its first case of COVID-19 six months ago today, a total of 342 Humboldt County residents have tested positive for the virus. Nine additional cases were reported today.

Wildfires in California lead to cancellation of Governor Gavin Newsom's appearance at the DNC convention


Governor Gavin Newsom is evaluating other options since the segment that was pretaped for his appearance at the Democratic National Convention has been nixed.

The wildfires and declaring a state of emergency were factors in this decision. Governor Newsom may tape a new segment or speak live. Governor Newsom did end up speaking live.
