On May 5, Fifth District Supervisorial Candidate Larry Doss held a fund raiser in conjunction with the Hoopa Rodeo Association to raise funds for their Animal Disaster Relief Fund.
“With fire season around the corner preparation is key to keeping both people and animals safe from disasters.” Said 5th District Candidate Larry Doss. “Road closures and limited access during fires are inevitable and being prepared will save lives.”
“Last year the Hoopa Rodeo Association evacuated 51 animals during the Monument and Knob fires, said Allie Hostler President of the Hoopa Rodeo Association. “We delivered about a ton of hay, about 400 lbs of gran and dog food to residents within the fire areas. These funds will go a long way in helping us feed and house evacuated animals and give peace of mind to local families having to leave animals behind.”
The rugged landscape of the East County is what makes it vulnerable to natural disasters. Evacuations caused by these events pose significant challenges to local livestock and large animals. The Hoopa Rodeo Association plays a critical role in monitoring these events and start making preparations to assist with evacuations. “Fundraisers like this one is one way we can help prepare our local areas for natural disasters. We know that catastrophic events can happen and our rural landscapes make us more vulnerable when resources can’t get into these areas,” said Candidate Doss. “Preparedness is key and that is something as Supervisor I will continue to participate in as 5th District Supervisor.”
