"Hi John. I just read your posts about the inmates in quarantine. There is a big covid outbreak in P.C. at least 25 inmates have tested positive. There are only 29 inmates left in P.C. All the others have tested positive. 3 tested positive today."
To protect the confidentiality of my source, I am not including some of my conversation with my source.
I contacted HCSO PIO Samantha Karged three questions, including whether quarantine affects the booking process and people being released instead of being held at the jail.
Ms. Karges was provided the information by the jail administration.
"Over the weekend the Humboldt County Correctional Facility began detecting positive COVID cases in one of our open housing dorms. Positive inmates were isolated pursuant to our COVID response procedures. As of today, we’ve had 21 inmates from this dorm test positive and no hospitalizations. The facility has created a quarantine/isolation unit for all inmates testing positive. There, inmates will isolate in accordance with CDPH guidance and once cleared by medical staff, will be able to return to the dorm."
"The dorm that experienced the outbreak is under quarantine, with no new inmates being introduced to the unit, except for returning inmates who are released from isolation."
"At this point, the outbreak has been limited to one dorm and inmates are being tested daily. This quarantine procedure is not currently affecting the space available for incoming inmates."
