Today was Day 7 of the jury trial for Delano Malang.
I sat in and heard day 2 of Deputy Conflict Counsel R.J. Leohner's cross examination of Arcata Police Officer Jamal Jones. Mr. Leohner would plays clips of a mere seconds out of several minutes of Officer Jones bodycam.
From what I heard today, the incident took place near the Arcata Plaza and Cafe Brio and Mr. Leohner seemed to be focusing his questioning on the resisting/obstructingexecutive charge.
I am not sure what the relevance of Officer Jones not knowing what a ferret had to do with the charges Mr. Leohner's client faces. Judge Elvine-Kreis sustained several objections including relevance and Mr. Leohner being argumentative from Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm.
From Officer Jones' testimony, there seem to be several complaints and issues with Malang who was seen on bodycam ignoring commands from police and walking away.
Included below are charges and court minutes from yesterday about contempt and sanctions against Mr. Leohner.
