Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass introduced Mike Newman who is running for her seat on the Board of Supervisors. As I reported on Tuesday, there was a kick off rally at 12:15 outside the Courthouse.
These are just some of the highlights from his speech.
"Thank you for your kind words, Virginia. I, too, agree that I can take the football and run with it without have to learn the plays from the new team."
"I believe I have shown that I am the best choice to be Humboldt County’s next 4th District Supervisor," said Newman. He listed reasons why.
I am the better qualified candidate
I am a competent decision maker
I listen and carefully evaluate decisions that impact our community
I am not afraid to Take a Stand
"The County is facing some challenges & opportunities in the near future," said Newman.
"Those challenges are budget, difficulty in attracting and retaining qualified workforce; limited, unreliable, and/or compromised infrastructure; geographic isolation and resulting conditions, including transportation challenges; limited housing; attracting industries & companies to help battle the majority of our largest employers being government agencies."
There was more. Newman listed his accomplishments, specifics and said he was "the better qualified candidate. " I am a 30+ year Businessman & Citizen proudly serving my community in a variety of ways both before, during, and after election to Eureka City Council."
I listed some of the ways Newman has volunteered his time and the positions he has held in my previous posts.
Newman said he was not afraid of differing opinions and "would not shrink from making hard decisions."
Former Eureka Mayor Frank Jager, Rob McBeth, local attorney Bill Barnum, Michelle Costantine, former Eureka Councilmember Marian Brady and First District Supervisor Rex Bohn were among the 50 people at the rally.
