When Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal was out sick, Deputy DA Trent Timm, who is second chair, stepped in to continue the prosecution case in the Ulisses Rodriguez mid trial. Mr. Bernthal is the lead prosecutor and has had years of familiarity with the case.
He returned today and the prosecution was done in about an hour. Court was in recess until the afternoon.
Through cross examination, Rodriguez's attorney, Ms. Andrea Sullivan, presented a vigorous defense in a complex case.
Today, the defense started their case and called their witnesses. This Wednesday, defense expert, Nikolas Lemas is expected to testify about fatal/toxic levels of meth were present in victims' bodies.
