Jury trial for convicted sex offender who once told Judge, "Can I just get sentenced?"

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer and Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin are currently in trial and the defendant is convicted sex offender David Dues. Ms. Kylie Boyd is co-counsel for Dues.

Judge Christopher Wilson is presiding over the trial.

I only had a brief moment to check his latest case. I have covered Dues since 2014. Dues previously served no time for a sexual battery case. Dues has been frequently arrested, including for allegedly soliciting two teenage girls visiting HSU.

Dues once told a Judge, "Can I just get sentenced?" Dues in the past used to have an off and on relationship with Arcata Paza stabbing suspect Victoria Clark. I would see her yelling at him and beating him. Dues was transient last I saw him and had been beaten up on the streets. Her last name is in the complaint. Clark was also at the courthouse.

She used to get arrested a lot but hasn't been in the headlines for a while. The last time I saw her was almost 4 years ago. She once said to me, she wantedto stay out of trouble because "I don't want to be on your blog."

Jury was sworn in on 2/15.

Dues has 49 cases in the local court system.Most are criminal, few traffic/infraction cases and one small claims case.
