Received this fake email and have reported it to Eureka Police Department

I just received this email. The subject line looked suspicious but I opened it. As suspected, it is a scam or phishing. Obviously, I know the correct email address belonging to EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell.

I just sent a screenshot to the real Brittany Powell at Eureka Police Department. If you receive a suspicious email from this address, don't respond and contact EPD.

Ms. Powell responded, "Thanks for bringing this to my attention.  Unfortunately my email account has been the target of spoofing emails.  Thanks for warning your readers. "

Here is a statement from our IT department: “Many agencies, including the City of Eureka, have been made targets of recent email attacks, with attackers sending emails appearing to be from the agency. If you receive an email appearing to be from the City of Eureka with a link or an attachment that looks like an Excel file, do not open it. If you are still unsure of the email's authenticity, please call the person directly to confirm over the phone.”
