Roger Rees will "accept the offer on the behalf of the people, although the families do not want this smart offer."

(Johnson)

(Von Keener)

There has been no booking log for the last several days. The County has chosen not to respond to me or HCSO. HCSO PIO Samantha Karges was trying to follow up. Ms. Karges is very good about responding. Based on my own experience in the past, the County or whoever is responsible has not provided or released the information.

Not having booking log information, makes it very hard to check on booking, arrests and follow up on cases. Relevant to this post is whether a convicted sex offender and second suspect in Bear River homicide is in custody.

Investigators, bail bonds, media, families of victim rely on the booking log information which has been a regular problem for months. The joke that is Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and HCSO Sheriff and administration could care less about public safety.

Maybe the shortstafffing at HCSO is the issue? It certainly was not an issue for Humboldt Sheriff William Honsal, Jr  because his priority is spending thousands protecting sheriffs from out of town instead of watching out for the local taxpayers and public who pay their salary.

This is only one of the posts about the booking log.

Convicted sex offender and second Bear River homicide suspect Von Keener has been out of custody. He removed his ankle monitor and is wanted for a parole violation. If he was in custody, how would you know with no booking log?

Keener was in court the last time with Bear River homicide suspect Mauricio Johnson's mother.

The jail does not have Von Keener in custody as of today. I should not have to follow up and waste extra time because the jail report is not being generated for days  The booking log allows the public to access this information directly.

I reported more than once that the DA's office has decided to accept the defense offer in Bear River homicide suspect's case.

Trial setting was continued and the plea is expected to be entered tomorrow on record.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees did not call it a plea. He told the family, its called a defense offer. And, that he was going to "accept the offer on the behalf of the people, although the families do not want this smart offer."

Mr. Rees could learn from Deputy DAs Trent Timm and Whitney Timm and Assistant Deputy DA Stacey Eads how to compassionately communicate a plea deal to grieving family members and victims.

The defense made an offer early on in the case. But DA Maggie Fleming refused it. Both the DA and Sheriff Honsal chose to  make a big deal and get press about extraditing Johnson. They misled the family and of course, there will be a reaction to a plea.

If certain other local media really wanted to do  investigative reporting and on HCSO, they would look into Bear River Casino, the homicides and deaths at that casino. They would follow the money about plea deals and where the priorities of solved cases and resources are spent by HCSO.

One particular local "media source" took no risk by doing a report by two deputies and their usual anonymous groupies patted them on the back for something that will make no difference for people who need a voice or in addressing the local entrenched systems. That local "media source" wouldn't want to lose any casino ad revenue. Anyone bother to check where HDSO advertises locally? Hard to tell when your online ads randomly flash for seconds on a page.
