Suspect, Eric Lee Barber, was taken into custody early this morning, according to Sheriff William Honsal.

Press Release (11:02 a.m):

On Friday, February 9, 2018 at approximately 10:03 pm, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the area of 3994 Highway 36, Hydesville. A witness reported that forty-five year old suspect Eric Lee Barber was shooting at their residence with a rifle.

Barber barricaded himself in his residence and refused to cooperate with deputy commands to exit. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation and S.W.A.T . Teams were activated and responded to the scene. After numerous attempts to gain Barber’s cooperation proved futile, S.W.A.T. made entry into the residence and took Barber into custody without further incident. 

Barber was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for PC 245(a)(4)- Assault by Force, likely to cause Great Bodily Injury, PC 246.3 Discharge a Firearm in Negligent Manner, and PC 148(a) 1- Obstruct/Resisting a Public Officer. His bail has been set at $100,000.
