On probation and he gets arrested on meth charges

On Sunday October 4th, 2020, special agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) were conducting surveillance in the parking lot of a business on Scenic Dr. in Trinidad.

Agents observed James Waltrip  (45 years old from Crescent City) leave the parking lot as a passenger in a vehicle. Waltrip is on active PRCS Probation out of Del Norte County.  With the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department agents contacted Waltrip after the vehicle he was riding in stopped at a business on Main St. in Trinidad.

Agents conducted a probation search of the vehicle. Underneath Waltrip’s feet on the passengers side floorboard of the vehicle agents located 4 pounds of methamphetamine wrapped in individual one pound bags. Waltrip admitted to purchasing the methamphetamine for $14,800 ($3700 per pound).

Waltrip is recovering from a major injury suffered during a recent traffic collision. Due to the injury and additional medical treatment required agents did not place Waltrip under arrest. The HCDTF will be forwarding the following charges to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office and the Del Norte County Probation Department:

H&S 11378 Possession of methamphetamine for sale

H&S 11379 Transportation of methamphetamine

PC 1203.2 Probation Violation
