"Everyone should be prepared to discuss resolutions more seriously. If neccessary, the court will intervene."

At trial confirmation for murder suspect Ronald Loureiro this morning, the jury trial scheduled for June 22 was vacated and continued on the Court's own motion.

Deputy District Attorney Shelly Small is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy DA Tobias Hasler appeared in court for her today. Loureiro's attorney is Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps.

Mr. Tipps said it was his understanding that "as of June 22, there would be no ability to conduct a jury trial."

Judge Christopher Wilson said, "that is not neccesarily so." Judge Wilson's  said court staff intends to address time not waived jury trials set in June, possibly also those scheduled in July, in an informal meeting. Attorneys should be prepared to discuss resolutions.

Mr. Hasler said based on his conversation with Ms. Small, there is no resolution.

Judge Wilson said, "Everyone should be prepared to discuss resolutions more seriously. If neccessary, the court will intervene."

Besides the 2018 case in which Loureiro is charged with murder, he had two cases from 2019 and one from 2017 on calendar today.

Trial confirmation for the murder case was rescheduled to August 3; jury trial is scheduled for August 17.

Loureiro withdrew his time waiver on March 26. The 60th day was May 26. Based on the California Chief Justice's order regarding jury trials and scheduling due to the coronavirus pandemic, court can reschedule jury trials for 90 days.

Mr. David Nims represents alleged victims Jackie Carter and two minor victims. He was not present via Zoom today.
