Brian Leiteritz' s jury trial date will be reset since defense has been unable to conduct investigation on the case
Brian Leiteritz had trial confirmation scheduled this morning. Jury trial for July 20 was vacated. Setting is scheduled for July 27.
Leiteritz is charged with Count 1 voluntary manslaughter and the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime and Count 2 Assault with a deadly weapon and special allegation of causing great bodily injury/death.
Leiteritz's attorney is Mr. Michael Robinson. Leiteritz is out of custody and Mr. Robinson appeared 977 for him today.
Mr. Robinso made an oral motion to continue the jury trial. It was granted by Judge Christopher Wilson since there was no objection by the People.
Mr. Robinson said due to the death of his law firm partner andhis investigator also suffering a similar loss, he has been unable to do any investigation on the case.
Deputy District Attorney Steven Steward is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy DA Candace Myers appeared for him via Zoom on this case today.
Mr. Steward attempted to reach victim Dylon Liakos' family to inform them about defense's request for continuance but was unable to make contact before today's hearing.
