Junkie picking up needles cusses me out and tells me he is doing a service

High as a kite, he had been screaming all night. I ignored him until a few minutes ago. Finally looked out my window, told him to shut up and interrupted him getting his fix.

He wouldn't leave, cussed at me, today's word was "bitch". That and "faggot" seem to be the only two words local addicts, bums and criminals know.

He said he was doing me a service by picking up  needles. These are dirty needles and he was putting them in a white plastic bag. Then he slunk off into the alley screaming. I called dispatch, gave them a description.

This alley is a magnet for junkies because the property owners do nothing. The City of Eureka has done nothing. I have filed a complaint form with Code Enforcement.

The area where they shoot up is between two houses, it can be sealed off and then they will not have a place to hide. The entire alley should because it smells like piss, feces and has bums and addicts on a regular basis.

Most of the people who live in my building  are less than thrilled with me because their riff raff activity has been impaired and they have to be careful when I am around while their "visitors" from the alley and faces I know from probation and courts stop by for a minute or few to "visit." I had a guy displaying baggies with weed and white powder in broad daylight to a neighbor. The moment I walked out of my apartment, they scurried away.

I have done more to clean up this building than the absent property management company and the owner with 60 plus properties in Humboldt. They are happy to collect rent including checks for housing from county clients who they know won't speak up and expecting those who work for a living to do the same.

I have another neighbor who frequently threatens me and twice when EPD has been called lately, he is smart enough to disappear and there is no contact. If there is no contact, there is no documentation. He lives in the apartment across from me. This guy is slick, he has lived all his life, knowing just how to avoid the system. One of these days, he will slip up and I will publish his mugshot. The same irresponsible guy who had a friend visit from Louisiana and stay during the shelter in place. The same guy who for months didn't wear a facial covering and still doesnt sometimes and interacts with neighbors who could care less.  Hangs out with a registered pedophile who has his other registered pedophile buddy hang out here. The buddy is someone Judge Kaleb Cockrum released despite four parole violations.

A group of miscreants who were used to doing whatever because they could with no one paying attention.

Humboldt COVID 19 numbers are going up because of people like him. Irresponsible groups of people who have no consequences and no enforcement while incompetent Gavin threatens reinstating the stay away order and frustrated health officers lecture the rest of us on masks and physical distancing.

Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance are at my building frequently. There are tons of service calls you pay for all over Humboldt because several property owners are cheap, greedy and lazy. These  skumlords prefer to rent to problem tenants  for that check from the county, state or feds while bringing down property values and affecting the lives of law abiding citizens. California created the housing crisis where these predator landlords charge exhorbitant rents for their poor choices and to live off the misery if others

Office buildings that smell, aren't cleaned on a regular basis and the property owners dare to show their face in civilized society.

This is what California and Humboldt's lax laws, enabling of criminals and  failure to invest in respobsible private enterprise has created. Local law firms have fences, businesses have fences. All the branding cannot fix the eyesore Eureka is until the drugs and irresponsible property owners are held accountable.

I write about my experiences because this is something many people experience. Despite arriving here 17 years ago and having the rug pulled out from me and being told the living situation I was promised was not available. Despite being told the County job I scored among the top two on a list  that I couldn' t interview for was no longer available due to a miscimmunication. Despite other roadblocks and my health being severely affected,  I invest my time and money in a community that has made me go through constant challenges surviving and I still make a difference. I am still positive and strong despite the abuse and challenges I have endured here. As the years have passed, my positive and personal side is reserved for those who are a part of the good and genuine in Humboldt and for those who care enough to get to know me as a person with an open mind.

The negative in Humboldt is actually a minority of media and those entrenched corrupt and weak people who profit from Humboldt staying stagnant.
Instead of Facebook, take the time to talk to people and you will see the resilient and good in Humboldt.

What has most of the other media, businesses, politicians  done to make a dent in the decades of dysfunction and crime in Eureka? Besides making money, staying silent and ignoring issues, what have those with money and power done while drugs, crime and calls to defund law enforcement are taking over this County?

EPD has started doing more patrol after several calls and complaints and breaks in businesses in the area I live in. Budget and resources are always an issue. Humboldt County and the City of Eureka need to start fining the owners of these problem properties and businesses that encourage junkies to hang out, rent to people who on a daily basis who give these junkies a place to hang out, properties that should have better safety measures where a sharpie container doesn't sit around on PG and E meters for months and the money collected should be allocated to the EPD budget and for services for anyone arrested that is willing to enter a recovery program and successfully complete it.

Every time there is an effort to change this place to improve quality of life and address crime,  someone sues the City and County.

There has been an impact and change in the shelter in place order and other reforms in system because masses of people spoke up. You can speak up peacefully and legally. Get involved to bring positive change in your community. Law enforcement is the only one protecting you right now. Cookies are nice but concrete support and speaking up for those who protect you is how you say thank you.
