CDCR to halt transfer of inmates after postive tests for COVID 19, public defender wants inmates released early


If you are wondering how this affects Humboldt, inmates are transported from Humboldt to San Quentin; then other facilities. The Humboldt jail so far, has not reported any inmate or staff being positive for COVID 19.



ABC7 Bay Area reports The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will halt the transfer of inmates on Monday after two inmates tested positive.

According to the CDCR, there are now 615 inmates and 89 staff members that have tested positive, 570 of those cases are new in the last 14 days.

Alameda County Public Defender Brendon Woods sent two letters to Governor Gavin Newsom asking for the release of "everyone who has a year or less to serve" to be released immrdiately. This number, according to Woods is approximately 30,000 people.
