"I think she needs time to prepare"
Confirmation of counsel was scheduled this morning for murder suspect Ulisses Rodriguez. At the last hearing, Ms. Andrea Sullivan was court appointed after the Public Defender declared a conflict.
She confirmed that appointment today. Ms. Sullivan met with Rodriguez prior to today's hearing. Ms. Sullivan asked that the jury trial of June 29 be vacated. She has to "catch up" with two years worth of developments and information on this case. She requested a setting of July 16 which was granted as People had no objection.
Ms. Sullivan also got Rodriguez to agree to waive time today; something that he has not done previously. Rodriguez was a different man, polite and told Judge Lawrence Killoran, " I think she needs time to prepare."
When asked if he was willing to enter a time waiver by Ms. Sullivan, Rodriguez said, " If that is what you need."
Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy DA Jane Mackie appeared for him on the case today.
