Ewa Misztal sits in the local jail waiting for state hospital to come get her


Ewa Misztal was ordered to be committed to a state hospital. The District Attorney filed the order of commitment. Confirmation of transport was scheduled on May 8; it was continued to May 21.

California Judge denies CHP request, man posts bail and ends up killing three family members and getting arrested again

After posting bail which was set at a lower amount than requested by CHP, Ismael Huazo-Jardinez was arrested again by  Sutter County Sheriff deputies. He was booked for a DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced today the creation of a new collaborative program intended for local law-enforcement that wish to honor immigration detainers but are prohibited due to state and local policies that limit cooperation with the agency.

Woman who got arrested twice in one day finally arraigned


Jacquelyn Bradley was arraigned today on two cases.  Bradley has a DUI case and a burglary case.

After she failed to appear on court for the DUI case, a bench warrant was issued and she was arrested. She was released from the jail and within a couple of hours arrested and booked for burglary.

Motion to continue Joshua Strange's preliminary hearing scheduled


Intervention was scheduled on May 6 for alleged molestor Joshua Strange.  A motion to continue has been filed and will be heard on May 9. Strange's attorney  Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield is currently in jury trial for Seng Yang.

After 20 years HCSO Deputy Julie Oliveira has retired


After 20 years, HCSO Deputy Julie Oliveira has retired. Yesterday was her last day. Next week, she starts as a Sgt with the Blue Lake Tribal Police Department.

I have known Julie since I moved here years ago. Wishing her the very best.

Erick Allen Battersby found guilty of attempted murder , assault and burglary



District Attorney Maggie Fleming announced that today, a jury found 34-year-old Erick Allen Battersby guilty of attempted murder, with the special allegation that it was willful, deliberate, and premeditated.  He was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and first degree burglary.

Male with head injury at Eureka Mission



Shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon, ambulance and Eureka Police officers were dispatched to the Eureka Rescue Mission. 58 year old with a head injury.

According to Eureka Rescue Mission  Executive Director Bryan Hall, " A guy bumped his head on a door when the door was being opened. The ambulance came because he was bleeding."

EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell is following up with responding officers. "From the original dispatch, it sounds like a male hit another male with a door.  The suspect was asked to leave before officers were notified. "




Seng Yang refused the DA's offer of 39 years to resolve his case, now he starts his jury trial



Individual jurors are being questioned in Seng Yang's  case. His charges with forcibly raping his own daughter and making her participate in porn. Motions in limine are expected to be heard this week.

Yang refused the DA's offer of 39 years to resolve the case. This was after the preliminary hearing.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is the prosecutor for this case. Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield is Yang's attorney.

Danny Waters preliminary hearing rescheduled to May 28 due to courtroom availability



Preliminary hearing for Danny Waters who is charged with attempted murder, criminal threats and assault on his own family members was scheduled for this morning.

Offer made in Jorden Sterling's most recent case


 At trial assignment on May 3 because no courtroom was available, robbery suspect Jorden Sterling's jury trial scheduled for May 6 was continued by the court. Today a setting and change of plea was scheduled. An offer was made in the case. Today's hearing was continued to May 9.

Assault on Mendocino correctional deputy



On 05-04-2019 at about 7:25 PM, a Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputy was dispatched to the Mendocino County Jail for a reported assault against a Mendocino County Corrections Deputy by a housed inmate inside the Mendocino County Jail.
