A hearing to appoint counsel in Phoenix King's case was scheduled this morning. Another writ of habeas corpus. Judge Christopher Wilson reappointed the Conflict Counsel's office. That office represented him in his 2013 case. King's attorney in the 2013 case was Mr. Gregory Elvine-Kreis, who is now a Humboldt Superior Court Judge.

Will the jury trial for Seng Yang charged with the forcible rape of his daughter and coercing her to participate in production of pornography start or resolve?
Jury trial for Seng Yang was scheduled for August 27. The DA had made an offer of 39 years; it was rejected by Yang.
Yang is charged with 16 counts which include forcible rape of Jane Doe (his own daughter) and exhibiting a minor in pornography. Alleged victim for all counts is Jane Doe.

Just spoke with Sheriff William Honsal. The replacement for Captain Kym Thompson will be an internal promotion. Sheriff Honsal expects to make that announcement "in a month and half." The process "is in the works" and HCSO has already started working with Human Resources.
