Redway transient with 9 cases arrested for possession of child pornography out on supervised release

According to KMUD, who was contacted by some Redway community members, Matthias Wilberger is a Redway transient. I followed up on the case due to the charges and also for KMUD.

Wilberger was arrested and charged with one count of PC311.11(a), possession of child pornography.

Wilberger was arraigned on 7/5. Public Defender's office was appointed and bail was set at $25,000.On 7/7 at his OR/bail hearing, supervised release was granted by Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for 7/17.

The Public Defender filed a request for motion to continue on 7/13 which was rejected by the clerk but can be refiled.


Wilberger has 9 cases in the Humboldt Superior Court system; 5 traffic infraction cases and 4 open criminal cases which include this sex offense case and a DUI.

7/17: Preliminary motion to continue by defense granted. Public Defender's office appeared on the case but Mr. Ben Okin said he expects to be retained. Setting of preliminary hearing and confirmation of counsel scheduled for 8/9.
