Mckinleyville homicide a tragedy for both families who know each other

Arraignment was completed today for murder suspect Jasen Coley. Mr. Michael Robinson has been retained by Coley's family. They were in court today as were members of Kenneth "Michael" Davis' family. Both families know each other.

Mr. Robinson recognized Davis' family for their grace and understanding and assured them that the intention is to move through the process with a speedy trial.  Some discovery has been provided to Mr. Robinson. A 60 day review to check on status of discovery and setting of preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9/13.

Mr. Robinson waived bail without prejudice and defense does not anticipate raising custodial status.

I heard from a regular reader who knew "Michael" through bible study. "Michael was a good man who loved Jesus and had put in the work to set himself and his family up for success." Several other people who knew him and others who saw him daily where he worked in downtown Eureka are in shock and saddened.

As I reported previously Coley worked at Humboldt Superior Court and others knew him growing up. They are also trying to reconcile the Jasen they knew and what happened to him that led to this tragedy.

Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers appeared on the case today with District Attorney Stacey Eads in the courtroom. DA Eads appeared on the case at the July 7 arraignment.

9/13: Pre trial on 10/16; preliminary hearing on 10/18. Time estimate for 1 hour.
