Jury trial for alleged gang murder for hire suspect postponed for a week

On June 24, 2021, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Chapparal Drive in McKinleyville for the report of multiple shots fired and a possible gunshot victim.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a 23-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound. Their investigation led to the arrest of  21-year-old Isreal Nathaniel Soria of Crescent City.

Soria's jury trial was on the trial assignment calendar yesterday and was scheduled to start on October 3. The jury trial was continued because no Judge and no courtroom was available. The time estimate is 1 month. Next court date is trial assignment on October 7.

I saw Soria seated outside Courtroom 2 waiting for his case to be called. Sorio's has hired an attorney from San Jose, Ms. Christina Ann-Marie DiEdoardo. Soria posted bond for his bail of  $750,000.

In addition to the five felony counts and five special allegations, Deputy District Attorneys Trent Timm and Luke Bernthal filed a motion to amend the information and add a sixth count which is additional attempted robbery charge with  special allegation 12022.5 (d ) personal use of a firearm during the commission of the crime. The DA motion to amend information was granted. The DA is alleging that this was a gang murder for hire.

10/7: At trial assignment, jury trial start date will be 10/11 in Courtroom 2 with Judge Wilson.
