On the first day of jury trial, alleged gang member Isreal Nathaniel Soria's mother, Ana Jaime broke the law in court and was admonished by Judge Christopher Wilson. Jaime has to abide by certain conditions or she will not be allowed to beat court proceedings.
Prior to the jury trial, Soria rejected the People's offer of 32 years in prison. Defense motion to exclude gang association and related acts was denied. Defense motion to exclude immigration status was granted. Court minutes have rulings on other motions.
Deputy District Attorneys Trent Timm and Luke Bernthal are the trial prosecutors. Ms. Christina Ann-Marie DiEdoardo is Soria's attorney. Soria is out of custody.
Jaime recorded court proceedings which is not allowed. She also tried to record Mr. Timm and HCSO Deputy Walstrom which she cannot do because recordings are prohibited on the second floor.
Anyone, including media, can film on any other floor of the Courthouse or out on the street.
Jaime has already shown disregard for the court and law by filming the prosecutors and law enforcement.
Who else will she record? Anyone she sees as a threat to her son? Jurors? Media? Court staff? Bailiffs? Even if the the other media cover this case in their random and haphazard manner; they don't have to worry because no one knows who they are.
Soria, his mother and his attorney recognized me even before I covered this case in court and was speaking with prosecutors. Unlike other media, I do get recognized and not just at the Courthouse. There is an extra danger in covering an alleged gang murder for hire trial. I have taken a risk reporting real news in this County for years.
Are you going to protect the prosecutors, the DA staff, the court staff, the bailiffs and me outside court? Do you appreciate those of us who keep you safe daily and bring you real news and information that keeps you safe?
Actions speak louder than words. The few of you who regularly thank are appreciated. To the rest of you with your negativity, whining on Facebook, baseless hate and attacks; to quote Travis Tritt:
"Well, here's a quarter, call someone who cares
Call someone who'll listen, and might give a damn."
