Forcible rape suspect held to answer for two counts after preliminary hearing

 


Forcible rape suspect Hudson Jack was held to answer to Count 1 and 2 after his preliminary hearing on October 5. Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter did not find sufficient evidence to hold Jack to answer to Count 3.

Arraignment on information is on October 19.


10/19: Jack arraigned. Trial confirmation 3/15; jury trial 3/27.





3/15: Trial confirmation continued by stipulation to 3/21. Further discussions regarding resolution.

3/21: Jury trial for 3/27 vacated. Recent discovery provided to defense. Trial setting for 4/17.

4/17: Trial confirmation on 9/18; jury trial on 10/2.

9/18:   Trial confirmation continued to 9/25.

9/25: Another continuance requested by defense which was granted. 10/2 date vacated.  Trial confirmation on 1/17/24; jury trial on 1/29/24. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Hudson's attorney.

1/17/24: Trial confirmed. Time estimate two weeks.

1/25/24:  Defense motion to continue jury trial granted over People's objection; defense waiting for expert report. 1/29 date vacated. Trial confirmation on 2/27; jury trial on 3/11.

2/27: Trial assignment on 3/8. 3 weeks time estimate.

3/8: No courtroom available for jury trial. 3/11 date vacated. Trial confirmation on 3/27; jury trial on 4/8.

3/27: Trial confirmation continued by defense to 4/4; jury trial 4/8. 3 week time estimate.

4/2: Defense motion to continue granted. 4/4 and 4/8 dates vacated. Trial confirmation rescheduled on 7/8; jury trial on 7/15.
