Verdict in Courtroom 2. The courtroom was expected to open at 11. Jury went in at 11:10. Only attorneys in at 11:12. Courtroom still not open as of 11:14. After Judge Lawrence Killoran arrived, the courtroom was opened around 11:20.
The jury found Sotolongo guilty of the lesser charge of second degree murder. The jury found true the special allegation that Sotolongo personally used a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime; a knife. Sentencing is on June 24. Sotolongo did not waive time for sentencing. As of today, Sotolongo has 2276 custody credits.
Sotolongo had been charged with first degree murder. The jury had the option of convicting him of th lesser charges of second degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter. Defense had argued . self defense
Judge Lawrence Killoran presided over the trial. Deputy District Attorneys Roger Rees and Jessica Watson are the prosecutors for the trial. Mr. Zach Curtis is Sotolongo's attorney.
