Why would anyone be surprised that certain local media only reports favorably about slick Andy Mills?

Listed below are several links to coverage from the Santa Cruz Sentinel on the court case of a former Santa Cruz police officer and  Santa Cruz Police Officer's Association President who was charged with touching "intimate parts" of four women. There are also links to the civil case.

Santa Cruz Police Chief Andy Mills is all about himself and publicity. Slick Mills knows how to get press and he ended up on MSNBC. I saw through his initial charm, his fake Christianity and how he played to who he was talking with at the moment.

If the Tuluwat Examiner has access to "inside information", let them publish the "rumor" why Mills really left Eureka. I did not when he left because it is hearsay with no specifics.

There are many stories in this town and County about misconduct and affairs that are shared around the water cooler. Some maybe true. Some may not. Unless they are against the law or abuse of authority or involve a court case, they matter only to the parties involved.

Anonymously saying something has no consequences. When certain allegations make it to court or a police report, there is a seriousness and those allegations can be verified and checked. When you use your name to report, there is credibility and responsibility.

Mills referred to Thad Greenson and Kimberly Wear as friends. He said that to me. It was a strategic move on his part. He reached out to Thad and Hank Sims in particular.

He rewarded North Coast Journal and Lost Coast Outpost  and one way was placing them on panels and by giving them information. Of course they will only report favorable coverage about him.  At the same time he was commiserating with liberal, anti police media; he courted conservatives. Many of you saw the side of Mills he wanted you to see. If you still have a great opinion of him, keep that blinder on.

He used Eureka to further his career. He was selfish and only had the spotlight on him, especially at press conferences. The same media that waxes on about him and his posed, viral moment that made it to on MSNBC are hypocrites because he would attend parties with many of the names the same media has disparaged and attacked.

People are aware of such conflicts of interests with certain local media and businesses playing both sides and being hypocrites.  It is a choice to fund, support  ignore and tolerate hypocrisy.

Genuine moments that go viral or get reported are not planned or done when you know press is there. If he really cared about racism, it would have reflected in diversity of staffing and promotions while Mills was at EPD and having those dialogues at a time when it isn't used to generate media for himself.

We have many good law enforcement officers here and among them are those who shouldn't be singled out because of the color of their skin or gender or any identity because they are all excellent officers and human beings. Diversity is not always obvious by physical appearance.

Gunter pleaded no contest in April
to four reduced counts of misdemeanor battery. The charges in the original criminal complaint involve three  female police officers and a former officer from incidents at parties in November and December 2017.

Six months of custody. two years of probation, he cannot drink alcohol or frequent a business where alcohol is the “chief item of sale,” and was ordered to stay away from the women he groped.

The next court hearing in the civil case that Jane Doe filed against the city and the Santa Cruz Police Department for allegedly failing to protect her from workplace retaliation and harassmentis scheduled on July .

The City of Santa Cruz filed a motion to strike the complaint. Legal counsel Michael Hsueh of Burke, Williams & Sorensen LLP argued that “a plaintiff may sue under a fictitious name only when ‘exceptional
circumstances’ exist.” Jane Doe's identity.
