The U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 ruling said that states can count ballots received within five days of Election Day if they are postmarked by Election Day.
Justice Amy Coney Barrett wrote the majority opinion. She was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson.
While this was a defeat now for the RNC, Justice Barret said Congress could change the law. “If varied deadlines for ballot receipt similarly call for a national solution, the American people must choose it through their elected representatives."
