Greenleaf Nurseries let go of their attorneys; now they are pro per and out of the country; Judge Canning telling them trial dates will be set at the next hearing for this three year old case needs to happen more often

No other local media has covered this lawsuit filed by GreenLeaf Nurseries LLC et al vs County of Humboldt.

Janssen Malloy was representing Greenleaf Nurseries. No attorney was present on 3/16/26 with Emily Talentino and Sean Trainor.

On 6/5, Talentino and Trainor appeared via Zoom at the Case Management Conference.

Mr. Nicholas "Nick" Kloeppel from the local Mitchell law firm represents the defendants. He told Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning "parties are going back and forth between settlement discussions."

Trainor said, "We are both out of the country. It is hard to submit documents."

Judge Canning scheduled a further CMC on October 2, 2026. He told the parties, "The case is 3 years old so at next court date, trial date will be set."

Some Humboldt judges in criminal courts, like Judge Canning in civil court, are trying to corral in the wild west Humboldt parties and attorneys. As they should because in Humboldt what is realistic for each party and should be resolved gets dragged out for years because of muh day in court. Attorneys are making money. In this specific case, the Mitchell Law Firm paid by taxpayer dollars. Everyone else's time is being wasted.
