Dennis Cameron held to answer for aggravated sexual assault of a minor and lewd act on a minor

Alleged molestor Dennis Cameron was arrested by Eureka Police Department on May 29, 2025. The DA charged him with three felony counts of PC 269 (a) (5) aggravated sexual assault of a minor and one felony count of PC 288 (a) lewd act on a minor.

On 1/22/26, after his preliminary hearing, Cameron was held to answer on all charges by Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Wilson. 

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is the prosecutor on the case. Deputy Conflict Counsel RJ Leohner is Cameron's attorney. Arraignment on information is on 2/5/26.

2/5/26: Readiness Conference on 3/19; jury trial on 3/30. 

3/19/26: Despite objection by Ms. Timm, request for continuance by Mr. Leohner granted. Subpoenaed records from Verizon  provided to defense. Trial setting on 3/26.

3/26/26: Trial setting continued by defense to 4/14. 

4/14/26: Deputy DA Carolyn Schaffer appeared on the case for the People. She did not stipulate to chain of custody regarding records from Zane Middle School which were provided to Mr. Leohner. Another continuance by defense to 5/5 which was granted by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward but he also said trial dates need to be scheduled at the next court hearing.
