Humboldt Judge Canning and Judge Steward holding repeat offenders accountable needs to be done more often in Humboldt Superior Court

I did this brief update on Dylan Olivas 2025 cases that I would usually add to the previous post. I made an exception because other media does not regularly cover many cases or provide public information that is important to know.

This is how all supervised release requests should be handled in Humboldt. Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Presiding Judge Timothy Canning did not let repeat offender Olivas out on the streets. He was recently arrested and charged with operating a drug house for meth and fentanyl. Judge Canning is holding a hearing on the supervised release conditions.

Judge Steven Steward handled mental health diversion differently for a repeat offender with 12 cases and four restraining orders. Only I reported and did extensive coverage on that defendant.

On 1/2/26, CR2500851 which is trailing Olivas' felony case had pre trial continued to 1/13/26 with a supervised release hearing. Trial confirmation is scheduled for 3/4/26; jury trial for 3/9/26. In CR2503047A, Olivas was held to answer after the preliminary hearing. Supervised release hearing and  arraignment on information in that case is on 1/13/26.
