I already reported that Humboldt Superior Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber intends to run for Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Joyce Hinrichs seat in the June 2026 election.
In March 2025, that I mentioned three names being considered as replacements for Retired Judge Joyce Hinrich's vacant seat in Humboldt Superior Court.
Those three are Commissioner Sarah Kaber; former Humboldt Deputy County Counsel Karen Roebuck and Humboldt Deputy DA Jessica Watson.
On November 26, 2025, Commissioner Kaber told me if Governor Gavin Newsom does not make an appointment for Retired Judge Hinrich's seat, she plans to run for that position.
I have written more than once why Commissioner Kaber is the obvious choice for appointment by Governor Newsom's Office. Humboldt Presiding Judge Kelly Neel, bailiffs, court staff, many local attorneys agree with me. Commissioner Kaber has proved on the job why she deserves this position.
One of those three candidates that the Governor's office did not chose was Watson. I have written a few times about Watson who shouldn't even be n prosecutor and definitely not a judge. California Governor Gavin Newsom's office agrees with me; many in the legal community agree with me and many in law enforcement agree with me.
Watson submitted signatures-in-lieu of filing fees to the Humboldt election office. I confirmed with the elections office it was for the vacant seat due to Judge Hinrich's retirement.
Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel District 7/Courtroom 7; Humboldt Assistant Presiding Judge District 4/Courtroom 4; District 6 is for Courtroom 6 which has been vacant since Judge Joyce Hinrichs retired early and District 3 is Judge Kaleb Cockrum who is currently assigned to Courtoom 1.
