Yurok Indian Housing Authority lawsuit against County of Humboldt set for trial

In July 2024, I did a post on a lawsuit filed by the Yurok Indian Housing Authority against the County of Humboldt.

No other local media covered this lawsuit. The Yurok Tribe is selective who it sends press releases to and advertises with yet just like several in Humboldt. Yet it is only me who often covers cases and information about the tribes, businesses, politics, courts for the community.

I am going to use this lawsuit to raise points which are relevant to budget concerns the County constantly raises.

Another lawsuit, money wasted which the County could use for roads, courthouse screening, hiring more deputies instead of whining about the budget constantly. The County of Humboldt needs to stop relying on grants and invest in economic policies that encourage private industries. The two conservative Humboldt County Supervisors are no different than the three liberal Supervisors. Funding their buddies does not benefit Humboldt County.

Government, tribes, many businesses, several media are all reliant on grants.

In another extremely busy week, Humboldt Superior Court did not update several civil cases until yesterday. I am already working this three day weekend to add updates from a week's worth of cases; most to previous posts since they are endless continuances and reshuffling of dates.

If you want to know what this lawsuit is about, read the previous post which has updates until the 1/12/26 hearing. Until Humboldt decides to invest and compensate me for money I should be making and have lost due to the Humboldt petty, selfish cabal, what I provide for free and have for 12 years is a good deal. Only my subscribers, supporters and advertisers get any extras and customized live updates. That is how most businesses and services work.

Sharing my posts helps. I know some people have spoken to businesses, even other media about supporting me and using my information. They won't and I am not interested in associating with them. Until the same good ole boys and gals in Humboldt including the owners and publishers change with new leadership and voices and professionals; the status quo needs independent reporting. I don't have to do the blog. The "powers to be" in Humboldt could spend more time focusing on making changes and stop trying to silence me by making my job harder and I would be glad to explore other options healthier and more profitable for me.

This is media for the people, by the people and please thank the brave advertisers who support me now and have in the past with editorial independence. That is the least you can do if you appreciate my work.

All that happened at hearing was trial dates were set. Trial assignment on 9/18/26. Court trial on 9/21/26 with a 5 day time estimate.

Humboldt Deputy Counsel Joel Campbell-Blair was present for the County. Ms. Cyndy Day-Wilson for Yurok Indian Housing Authority.
