AT & T outage disrupting HCSO and other emergency phone lines

I put in the courthouse address and a couple of addresses in Eureka and the same message displays on AT & T site.

AT & T site confirms outage. HCSO just issued a press release. The same information is on HCSO Facebook and Twitter account. EPD Dispatch Center also provided a cell phone number to call and number to text. Our local agencies got this out quickly. Our dispatchers are the best every day.

At 4:34 p.m. EPD updated service had been restoref. At 5:46 HCSO issued an update that service had been restored.

HCSO Press Release:

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise the public that we are experiencing a disruption to the phone lines connecting to the HCSO Emergency Communications Center. This appears to be related to the larger AT&T phone outage affecting users across Humboldt County. At this time, 911 lines appear to be operational, however non-emergency lines are not. Additionally, Text-to-911 is still operational.

To report a non-emergency crime, please use our online crime reporting tool at: https://humboldtgov.org/1380/Online-Reporting or call 707-502-7579.

If you are experiencing an emergency, please call or text 911.

How do you text to 9-1-1?

o Enter the numbers “911” in the “To” or “Recipient” field;

o The first text to 9-1-1 should be short, include the address and the location of the emergency, and ask for police, fire or ambulance;

o Push the “Send” button;

o A dispatcher will respond to the text

o Answer questions and follow instructions from the 9-1-1 dispatcher;

o Text in simple words – no abbreviations, slang or emojis;

o Keep text messages short.

EPD update (3:25 p.m):  We have an additional number available to the public to use for emergencies if someone is unable to get through to 9-1-1.  Please use: 707-441-4358.

EPD update (4:34 p.m):  Phones and phone lines have been restored and are available for use.  Please utilize 9-1-1 for emergencies and the dispatch non-emergency number, 707-441-4044, for non-emergency assistance.  Thank you for your patience!

HCSO update (5:46):

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise the public that phone service to the HCSO Emergency Communications Center has been restored at this time. Please use 9-1-1 for emergencies and 707-445-7251 for non-emergency assistance.
