I had reported on Sarah Carroll's hit and run arrest last week and followed up with CHP with some questions.
CHP PIO Paul Craft responded, "After reviewing the reports for this case, I see that Ms. Carroll reportedly fled the scene of the crash and was later identified via photographic lineup by witnesses. A CHP report was sent to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s office requesting charges be filed against Sarah Carroll. On 9-20-2023 Carroll attempted to report the involved vehicle stolen to the Garberville CHP Office. However, they declined to take the report based on their knowledge of this ongoing investigation."
"I am unsure how/why Ms. Carroll was taken into custody (whether she turned herself in or was arrested for this or something else). You would have to get that information from the DA’s Office or the Humboldt County Jail."
I requested a current booking photo of Carroll which was requested this Monday. I have sent a follow up request and after not hearing from anyone from the HCSO media account for three days, I sent an email to Sheriff Honsal yesterday. County offices are closed tomorrow and then there is the weekend. I know they dont have a PIO right now but 4 days of non response is very different from last week.
The jail staff at reception does not have information, especially when someone is already out of custody. The DA's office has charged Carroll. If she shows up for her arraignment next month, maybe we will know more.
