Took a jury an hour to acquit a defendant of animal cruelty

The  jury in People vs  Jamael Brandon Lowery found him not guilty of Count 1 PC 597 (a), animal abuse/cruelty. The jurors went into deliberation at 3:27 pm and came back with a verdict at 4:28 p.m. The charge had already been reduced to a misdemeanor in this 2023 case. Lowery was released from custody.
Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell was Lowery's attorney. Deputy District Attorneys Jessica Acosta and Brandon Boozari were the prosecutors.

I did two  posts on Lowery from 2019 and one from 2016.  53 cases come up for Lowery in the Humboldt Superior Court system from 2011 to 2023.

4/10: Lowery was booked into jail on a bench warrant for two 2022 cases. Charges for both cases include PC 422 criminal threats, four counts of PC 1203.2 (a) probation violation, one count of PC 1203 (e)  4) two prior felony convictions making him ineligible for probation, one count of PC 667(b)-(i) three strike offender and two counts of PC 594 (b) (1) vandalism.
