This morning, there was trial setting, status of discovery, a case management conferennce and demurrer from former Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin's third amended complaint from former Public Defender Marek Reavis, current Public Defender Luke Brownfield and County of Humboldt. The other defendant in the lawsuit is Humboldt Judge Gregory J. Kreis.
Kalin filed an opposition to the demurrer. On March 6, lawyers for Reavis, Brownfield and County of Humboldt filed an 8 page reply. For those not wanting to read all the 8 pages of the reply, it is basically the same repetitive template of we didn't do it, we are not responsible and addresses negligent hiring and sexual harassment training.
Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman will issue a ruling on the demurrer. Readiness scheduled for 4/26/23 and jury trial for 5/1/23 vacated. Another case management on 6/26 and jury trial scheduled for 1/8/24.
