"Things are heating up in the CJP investigation into GEK."

Unless there is yet another last minute schedule change, case management, trial setting and status of discovery is scheduled on 3/13  in former Humboldt Public Defender Rory Kalin's lawsuit against former Humboldt County Public Defender Marek, current Public Defender Luke Brownfiled and current Presiding Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis.

I have previously reported that the Commission on Judicial Performance is investigating Gregory Elvine-Kreis. Word is that "Things are heating up in the CJP investigation into GEK." This in addition to depositions and investigation in the Kalin lawsuit.

The CJP does not comment on ongoing investigations. Public discipline is listed on the website. If there is a private reproval, then the public knows nada; even after the investigation is complete.

While I am glad that the CJP is talking to people, by now people have left.  A certain clerk who was "let go",  "left",  settled privately and I am sure she can't legally talk or won't. It is a small town. 

While he is still listed as Gregory Elvine-Kreis in the e-court system, his name now reads Gregory J. Kreis. GEK now GJK gets paid $260,000 and presides over the lightest calendars. This week he isn't in Courtroom 7 but in Courtroom 8, the early resolution calendar.

His ex wife lists her name as Brenda Elvine. Looks like the divorce is final.

It isn't just the public and defendants who have been screwed over by GJK that have an issue with him. Several in the legal community, Humboldt and all over the state who know GJK have said the same thing to me,"He has no business being on the bench."

Isn't that what I have been saying and documenting with court coverage and examples for years?

In 2015, CJP's admonishment against Retired Judge Dale Reinholtsen and Judge Christopher Wilson was public. Submitting false salary affidavits, receiving salary for cases that weren't timely cleared is not okay. But what those two Humboldt judges did is nothing compared to CJK's arrogance and complaints against him.  

Just the allegations in the Kalin lawsuit are disgusting, immoral and egregious. That is not the whole picture about GJK. If CJP goes private with GJK, that is not transparency, accountability or justice.
