Next time you see your attorney, court staff, just say thank you

I don't think people realize how stressful the work environment is every day in courts which has only worsened with the impact of COVID 19 closures and restrictions, the ever existing court backlog and conditions that change at a whim. Appreciate your attorneys and court staff because surviving Humboldt Superior Court is  multi tasking at Olympic level.

Most attorneys work through lunch, dinner and on weekends. So, if you didn't get a call back right away or they are rushed in a response, cut them some slack. Next time you are at the Courthouse, maybe ask that court staff member helping you how their day is going.

No other reporter is in the courtrooms everyday or covering it live. So when I share something like the comment below, it is to give those who are new readers, a small idea of what courts are like in a small, rural town. It isn't about me but about the quality of journalism and hard work I value and the standard of hard work I respect. I share the time I put in because it is to show anyone reading this blog that I value my readers, my advertisers and supporters and give them 100% and more.

Just today, I covered the Sean Allman case, the Matthew Ramsey case as well as the Ryan Tanner case in different courtrooms this morning scheduled at the same time and posted live. And also managed to cover the  Mauricio Johnson case live. I can cover multiple cases, a preliminary and an all day trial and still get information out fast. Most of my coverage is not via email or recording something on a livestream or a phone call or asking attorneys questions. I cover it live. I put in the work.

I work hard because the people at the courthouse I cover; even those I criticize, deserve me highlighting the work they do. Unlike some business and community members, they do value me; despite the passionate posts and critiques.

And, I earn my own paycheck. No sales rep. No funding because I do selective coverage and ignore what is inconvenient.

Juggling dynamic changing schedules, live and prioritizing is a skill and a choice.  I appreciate all of you that personally thank me, text me, message me. Loyal readers, you are a vital part of this blog's success and I appreciate you. I will take real people and loyalty over facebook likes, multiple comments by the same people and online bots.
