Humboldt County’s outdoor spaces remain open to the public, though playgrounds and communal structures remain closed at parks throughout the state.
National, state, county and city parks are open for recreational use, with many outdoor activities available that allow participants to maintain physical distance from non-household members. Physical distancing should be practiced and facial coverings worn while in close proximity with others, such as in parking lots and on narrow pathways.
According to the State of California COVID-19 website, “It’s okay to go outside to go for a walk, to exercise, and participate in healthy activities as long as you maintain a safe physical distance of six feet and gather only with members of your household.”
The state is advising against traveling significant distances for pleasure or recreation and urging Californians to stay close to home instead. If you do travel, continue taking steps to ensure everyone’s safety such as wearing facial coverings, keeping six feet of physical distance from those not in your household and frequently washing your hands.
Activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, disc golfing, picnicking and tennis (singles) are allowed. Camping is also allowed with officials encouraging residents to stay as close to home as possible. For a full list of outdoor recreational activities, visit the state website.
“State Parks will continue to monitor visitation and physical distancing across the State Park System and if unsafe conditions develop, park units may close again,” according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
