A gunman disguised as a FedEx driver shots and kills Judge's son and injures husband


A gun man dressed in a FedEx delivery driver uniform shot and injured U.S. District Judge Esther Salas' husband, Mark Anderl and killed their son Daniel. Judge Salas was in the basement and was unharmed.

Different media reports have different last names for the son. Some use Salas; others Anderl. Reports also differ as to who opened the door to the home in New Jersey. Some say the son; others Judge Salas' husband.

The suspect is not in custody. It is not known if the gunman is a FedEx employee or not, at this time. After opening fire, the suspect fled from the scene.

There have been previous threats against the Judge. Authorities are investigating if the shooting is related to those threats or her husband's work.


The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, New Jersey State Police and New Jersey Office of the Attorney General are all investigating the shootings.

7/20 update: Federal authorities on Monday said Den Hollander is suspected of shooting the husband and son of US District Judge Esther Salas at her North Brunswick, New Jersey.

The FBI said Den Hollander, the suspect is dead. Several media reports that he died of a self inflicted wound. He is described as an anti-feminist lawyer who argued one case before Judge Salas.
