"It's a two year case. We desperately need to move this forward. The trauma it continues to inflict, the longer it is continued"

Ruling on the defense motion to continue alleged molestor Mark Dare's jury trial was scheduled on July 30. Jury trial is scheduled for August 17 was confirmed.

The ruling on motion to continue was moot since defense confirmed for trial.  I think after the last hearing and this statement by Judge Christopher Wilson, " Public Defender Marek Reavis saw the writing on the wall.

"It's a two year case. We desperately need to move this forward. The trauma it continues to inflict, the longer it is continued," said Judge Wilson. "The motion to continue is vehemently opposed by the People."

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm's motion to compel discovery, which was filed after the last hearing, was granted.

Mr. Reavis said he does not plan to call the witnesses mentioned in Ms. Timm's motion. "If we come to trial and these witnesses are called, you will have materials," said Judge Wilson reminding him of discovery obligations.

Defense experts from UC Davis are available to testify on October 6 and 8. They can appear in person or via Zoom. Mr. Reavis indicated his preference was via Zoom.

Ms. Timm is working on case law to see if witnesses can appear via Zoom. "I want to make sure there are no apellate issues."

Everyone in court will be wearing masks, there are plexiglass barriers in court and there will be physical distancing. These are the measures the courts are taking for jury selection and trials. Judge Wilson mentioned them in response to Mr. Reavis' concerns about COVID 19.

Alleged victims are his stepdaughters.
