13 pending cases and Casey O’Leary Menanno arrested again on various charges

On June 16th, 2020, at approximately 2:20 p.m., special agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF), with the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), served a search warrant at a motel located in the 200 block of 5th Street, Eureka.

During their multi-week investigation, HCDTF agents received information that Casey O’Leary Menanno (age 36) was trafficking narcotics throughout Humboldt County.  Menanno is also the suspect in multiple residential and commercial burglaries and agents had reason to believe he was in possession of stolen property.

HCDTF agents are very familiar with Menanno as they have arrested him three times this year, including a case where he was arrested at the Bear River Casino in January.  Menanno has been released from custody on all of these cases and currently has thirteen (13) pending cases from local law enforcement agencies where he is the suspect in weapons, narcotics, and theft related offenses.

Upon contact, agents detained Menanno without incident.  Agents searched Menanno’s motel room and located approximately two pounds of suspected heroin packaged for sales, one ounce of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, over $100,000 U.S currency, and other drug paraphernalia commonly associated with narcotics trafficking.  Menanno’s motel room was completely packed with suspected stolen property, including a stolen handgun reported to HCSO on 5/28/2020.

Menanno was subsequently placed under arrest and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges: H&S 11351/11378 (possession of narcotics for sales), H&S 11370.1 (possession of narcotics while armed), PC 459/461 (burglary), PC 496 (possession of stolen property), PC 29800 (felon in possession of a firearm), and PC 12022.1 (committing felony while on bail).  Agents were granted a bail enhancement pursuant to PC 1275 which makes Menanno ineligible for bail at this time.

Agents continued their investigation and served a search warrant on a storage unit in the Humboldt Hill area.  This unit was rented to Menanno and agents had probable cause to believe additional stolen property was likely inside.  During their search, agents located eleven additional firearms (four of which have been confirmed stolen), a variety of suspected stolen property, and a significant amount of U.S. currency.  All U.S. currency seized during this investigation is suspected profits from illegal narcotics trafficking and will be held pending asset forfeiture proceedings.

Attached are photographs of the suspected stolen property.  If you are a theft victim and want to claim your property, contact the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976, and arrangements can be made for the return of your property, pending the approval of a Humboldt County Superior Court magistrate.
