Second charge added in murder suspect Brandon Watson's case for alleged assault on a different victim

Motion to file first amended complaint in murder suspect Brandon Watson's case was continued to 2 p.m. this afternoon. Watson's attorney, Ms. Andrea Sullivan objected to the motion.

Ms. Sullivan told Judge Timothy Canning that the "People are attempting to add a charge from a 2016 incident. The victims are different." She mentioned that the motion should be denied in the interest of judicial economy.  Ms. Sullivan also said that a motion to sever could be filed later on, should the motion to file the first amended petition be granted today.

Deputy District Attorney Joel Buckingham said "judicial economy can work both ways. Both incidents occurred at the bar. A Count 2 was added in the first amended complaint. It is for assault with a deadly weapon.

Due to significant discovery received and Ms. Sullivan currently being in jury trial, setting was continued to February 11.
