First the 8:30 calendar in Courtroom 5 took longer than usual, then one juror was excused. Finally, a little after 10 a.m. this morning, the People and the defense made opening statements in alleged molestor Mario Alexander's case. Jane Doe #1 and her mother testified today.
There are now 8 women and 4 men on the jury and the two alternates are two men. A female alternate juror replaced the male juror who was excused this morning.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads. Lead investigator on the case is DA Investigator Steve Dunn. Alexander is represented by Mr. Russ Clanton. Dressed in a black suit, again today, Alexander scribbled notes furiously during Ms. Eads' opening statement.
There are two alleged victims, one is Alexander's former stepdaughter.
